Loudwater Trust holds 11 investments. We have made individual investments ranging from £1 million to £8 million and we have led investment rounds ranging from £2 million to £14 million. Approximately half of our investments are in technology companies and our portfolio is split roughly equally between the UK and the US. A selection of our investments are shown below.


AgraQuest, Inc.

AgraQuest is a bio-technology company which develops and manufactures a line of natural pest management products for agricultural and horticultural markets. With successful commercialization of its flagship fungicide, Serenade, AgraQuest is the leading pure player in bio-pesticide market with effective and commercially viable bio-pesticide solutions. The company is moving rapidly to meet the growing needs for environmentally safe food inputs and is preparing the launch of newly developed bio-insecticide and bio-fumigant. Loudwater led a $20m mezzanine round, alongside existing investors including TPG (Texas Pacific Group) Ventures, Otter Capital, Halcyon Capital, Foragen Technologies Management Inc., Swiss Re, Emerald Technologies, and SPG Private Investment Inc.

City Financial Investment Company Ltd.

City Financial is a long established London based fund management firm that was acquired in January 2006 by Wittering Limited, with Rob Hain and Andrew Williams (formerly of Invesco UK) joining as managing directors to reorganise and rejuvenate the business. Since this time the company has rapidly grown its managed funds to over £150m through both acquisitive and organic means. The company is responsible for highly regarded Gilt, Global Bond, and Multi-Manager absolute return funds which boast some of the strongest performance figures in the industry.

Gemfire, a leading manufacturer of photonics sub-systems and planar lightwave circuits, uses its patented PhotonIC™ optical circuit technology to process and package multiple optical functions on a single device for system integrators. These form a vital part of the fibre optic networks which the world’s telecommunications companies are building out to support ever increasing demand for broadband from commercial and residential users. There are also important uses in Defense and Space applications. Gemfire has operations in both Fremont CA and in Livingston, Scotland. Loudwater led a $28.5m round which also included Centaurus Capital, Uberior Equity Ltd. (a subsidiary of HBOS Plc), and Palo Alto Investors.

Glimmerglass designs and supplies world class optical switches for fiber optic networks and systems. Glimmerglass Intelligent Optical Switches offer reliable, flexible and easy-to-use solutions to telecom carriers, data centers, and government agencies, allowing them remotely to create, monitor and protect light paths/fiber connections. Glimmerglass has a global presence with its products deployed in many regions with rapidly growing bandwidth demands. Loudwater lead a mezzanine round alongside existing investors.




Low Carbon Accelerator Ltd.

Low Carbon Accelerator is a Guernsey based investment fund managed by Low Carbon Initiative. The fund invests in businesses whose products or services lead to net reductions in greenhouse gas emissions with a focus on buildings and building products, green fuels, energy generation and energy efficiency.

Loudwater provided seed funding to LCA, allowing it to make five investments prior to listing on AIM. LCA raised £45 million and listed in AIM in October 2006. To date it has invested £20m.

Pentadyne Corporation

Pentadyne manufactures the most energy efficient flywheels for UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and power recycling applications. Unlike other steel-based flywheels, Pentadyne flywheels are made of carbon fiber and are magnetically levitated. As an environmentally sound alternative to lead-acid batteries, Pentadyne flywheels are sold to the leading UPS system manufacturers for many industry applications including datacenters, healthcare, transportation and government/military.

The London N1 based company is the largest independent radio producer in the UK and is responsible for shows such as Jazz on 3 and The Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1). The company is also a top ten producer of TV and interactive entertainment (including web media, games and mobile content) and manages the likes of Jeremy Kyle and JK & Joel through its talent management agency. Over the years the company has won many awards including Bafta, Sony Radio Academy and GSM Association.






The Engine Group Limited

The company is headed up by WCRS co-founder Peter Scott, who began the Engine journey following the management buyout of WCRS from HAVAS in April 2004.
